Getting there
The Sofitel Athens Airport has an unbeatable location. It’s a short five-minute walk directly across the street from the airport, no taxi needed. We have used this hotel in the past on the night before an early flight out of Athens, but on this trip, we arrived late and just needed a bed before we left for Amanzoe the next day.
Check in
Check-in was easy, and there were plenty of staff about to help direct us. The front desk agent was friendly and actually upgraded us from the Superior room we booked to a Luxury room. I prepaid for this booking on American Express Travel to receive 5x the points, so I only needed to pay the 4 euro city tax at check-in.
Luxury Room
We were pleasantly surprised with our Luxury room. It wasn’t huge, but it was well appointed, and I could tell it was recently renovated. During our last visit, we stayed in a Classic room, and it felt extremely outdated. That was why I booked a Superior room for a few euros more on this trip. The room had a comfortable king size bed, desk, closet, bathroom with tub and shower and water closet.
Food
We were pretty jet lagged by the time we arrived and didn’t feel like venturing out for food, so we ordered room service. We were pleasantly surprised with the price and quality of the food.
Before we left on our check-out day, we ordered room service again for breakfast, and it was equally delicious. I had in my head that airport hotels were pretty basic, but this felt a level up from that.
Main hotel
The hotel has a main restaurant, outdoor bar, swimming pool and spa. Due to COVID, the swimming pool and spa were closed.

Considerations
This is a solid hotel choice if you need to be near Athens Airport. Upgrading to one of their more recently renovated rooms, like the Superior or Luxury rooms, is worth it. The food was more impressive than I expected. All around, a great airport hotel.
